Q & A

How are we rehearsing?

Dancers will be given 4 videos at the start of the rehearsal process to learn 4 phrases. Dancers are free to learn the phrases at their own rate and are encouraged to practice using improv to get in and out of the phrases and create different versions of the phrases. There will be "pop-up" rehearsals each week on Zoom or in a park for those who wish to receive feedback or ask questions while practicing. Pop-up rehearsals will be at different times each week to try to ensure everyone can get a chance to get to one regardless of work or school schedules.

How much of the dancing is improv and how much is phrase-work?

It is 100% up to you. You can do improv the entire evening and not learn the phrases at all if you want, however the opposite is not true. All dancers must improv in this performance, as we will be staying in character the entire evening, even while not dancing.

How will I be assigned a character?

In line with our no-audition policy, roles and characters will not be assigned, they will be created by the dancers. You get to decide what kind of a suspect you want to be and what your back-story is, make your own suspicious characteristics, and design your own costume. Character descriptions will be due on May 1st. Costumes will be due June 1st. If you don't want to create your own character, a character can be created for you and a costume provided for you.

Do I have to make a costume for myself?

Costumes will be provided by dancers as much as possible. Keep costuming in mind as you are creating your character. Some costume pieces can be provided by Ballet Nocturne and must be returned at the end.

What if I can't make it to the cast meeting or dress rehearsal?

If you cannot make it to the cast meeting, we can send a recording of the meeting after. If you cannot make it to the dress rehearsal, you are still able to participate in the show as long as you are very comfortable with partner improv and character improv.
